Itinerary
Day 1 – Marrakech to Ouled Driss
Begin your adventure with an early morning departure from Marrakech, crossing the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Travel through Ouarzazate and the beautiful Draa Valley before arriving in the ancient village of Ouled Driss. Meet your nomad guide and camel team, prepare your equipment, and spend the evening in a traditional clay guesthouse or fixed camp before your desert trek begins.
Day 2 – Ouled Driss to Sidi Naji
After breakfast, begin your trek through the palm groves of Ouled Driss, leaving the fertile Draa Valley behind as you venture into the vast Sahara. Cross ancient riverbeds, scattered sand dunes, and historic earthen ruins before arriving at the peaceful site of Sidi Naji. Spend the night in a mobile wilderness camp beneath the stars.
Day 3 – Sidi Naji to Erg Zahar
Today’s journey leads you into some of the Sahara’s most spectacular landscapes. Walk across endless rolling dunes as you approach the magnificent Erg Zahar, famously known as the “Screaming Dunes.” Climb the highest ridge to enjoy breathtaking panoramic views before settling into your isolated desert camp for another unforgettable evening beneath the stars.
Day 4 – Erg Zahar to Erg Essamar
Wake early to witness a spectacular Sahara sunrise before continuing your trek across the dry basin of the ancient Draa River. Discover the hidden dunes of Erg Essamar, home to the fascinating remains of an abandoned nomadic settlement and ancient tamarisk trees. Spend another peaceful night camping in the heart of the desert.
Day 5 – Erg Essamar to Ouled Driss
Continue your return trek across the rugged Hamada stone desert before re-entering the palm groves of the Draa Valley. Arrive back in Ouled Driss during the afternoon, where you can enjoy a refreshing shower and celebrate your adventure with a traditional home-cooked Moroccan dinner.
Day 6 – Ouled Driss to Marrakech
After breakfast, begin the scenic return journey to Marrakech. Travel through Ouarzazate and the High Atlas Mountains, stopping along the way to admire Morocco’s spectacular landscapes before arriving back in Marrakech in the early evening.
